Take on the challenge by playing as one of the many iconic teams, including some hidden ones, and discover the multiple endings the game has in store for you. Your mission is to put a stop to the evil Orochi's plans to resurrect and settle the score between Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami!
This game features a whopping 35 playable characters, including Kyo Kusanagi, Terry Bogard, the New Face Team, and the KOF '97 Special Team. Enjoy the returning Orochi Iori and Orochi Leona as they are now available directly on the character select screen, providing an easy way to defeat your opponents once and for all! You can also try out the brand new "Affinity System" to select the perfect members for your team based on their affinity and witness their pre-match interactions.
KOF '97 uses two distinct gameplay modes: Extra and Advanced, offering different ways to master the game's complex mechanics. In Advanced mode, execute various jumps to attack your opponents and store Power gauges to enter Max mode or unleash Desperation moves. Extra mode, on the other hand, lets you use the Evade move as you are being rushed and fill your Power gauge to automatically enter Power Max mode. Beware, though, as your health bar will turn red and blink when you are close to exhaustion, giving you a chance to unleash your Desperation Moves.
This NEOGEO Perfect Port comes with added features like the possibility to play the game with either the original 4 buttons settings or a new 6 buttons control scheme with a simplified special move triggered by the SP button.
