Game overview

Sonic 4 brings back the classic side-scrolling Sonic formula with a modern twist, featuring new mechanics and fresh level design. Picking up right after Sonic & Knuckles, it stays true to the fast, momentum-driven gameplay that longtime fans have come to expect, with tight platforming, speed routes and score-chasing runs.

Core moves such as the Spin Dash are back, as is the Homing Attack, which gives you more control in midair and opens up new ways to chain movement and attacks. While retaining the old-school feel, it provides you with a few more tools to maintain your aggressive style and speed.

The game is structured around four zones, each comprising four acts, plus special stages inspired by the Genesis-era games. Collect all seven Chaos Emeralds and you can unlock Super Sonic, just like in the original games.

There are also two mobile-exclusive levels built around motion controls, which add a new dimension to the way you move through certain stages.

Boss fights have been upgraded too. Dr. Eggman is back with redesigned machines whose behaviour changes as they take damage, making each fight feel more dynamic.

Overall, Sonic 4 builds on the classic era, remaining familiar at its core while offering enough updates to feel fresh on modern devices.
