XtereO is useful for students of Crystallography within university degrees in Chemistry and Geology.
In addition, XtereO is an adequate tool for pre-university levels, to exercise the visual-spatial skills fundamental in the comprehension of many concepts in STEM disciplines.
Stereographic projection applied to the study of the symmetry of crystallographic models requires imagining or mentally visualizing reflections and rotations in three dimensions and representing the results in a 2D space.
Each XtereO play corresponds to the stereographic projection of a simple crystallographic form of one of the Point Groups of the orthorhombic, tetragonal, trigonal and hexagonal Crystal Systems. The app includes a description of the theoretical basis of stereographic projection, a “how to play” section, and a personal record of results.
Xtereo's crystallographic theoretical basis have been supervised by Dr. M.J. Mayayo, professor of Crystallography and Mineralogy at the University of Zaragoza.
