Called Othello or Reversi, this game of strategy is based on a game that was invented in 1883 by either of two English men (each claiming the other a fraud), Lewis Waterman or John W. Mollett, and gained considerable popularity in England at the end of the nineteenth century. There has been speculation, so far without documentation, that the game has even more ancient origins.
