Hangman - classic word game

Hangman is a classic word game, traditionally played with two people, pen and paper - or chalk and blackboard. While being fun and challenging, it is actually very simple and adaptable, and suitable for beginners to crossword fanatics. (While this is a traditional game often played with children - the idea of saving a stick-figure from hanging has been deemed by an independent organization to be inappropriate for children).

The game is about guessing a hidden word - with the only clue being the number of characters - represented by underscores. When you correctly guess a letter it is written into the word. If you incorrectly guess a letter another component of the gallows/stick-man is drawn. The aim is to save the stick-man from the gallows by guessing the word before the gallows/stick-man is drawn completely.

There are many versions of the game, but this App has a combination of features which we believe make it a worthy addition:

- Choose the number of allowable wrong guesses - from 6,8,10 or 12.
- Words are divided into 4 subsets - from common to rarely used words. You can choose, not just a single subset, but from a range of subsets that suit your vocabulary and mood.
- 2-person mode (requires sharing the same phone) which allows one person to enter a word (or phrase) and the other to guess it.
- Choice of UK or US spelling
- Quick link to on-line dictionary to check out on words you aren't familiar with.
- It has a simple, uncluttered screen
- Play it off-line (though the on-line dictionary requires an internet connection)
