G.F., or Guardian Force, are called upon in battles by players to defend the protagonists in FINAL FANTASY VIII. By junctioning G.F., players enjoy more flexibility in their strategic approach to battles. Additionally, players can obtain magic by drawing it during battles as MP is not available. Magic can be released on the sport or stocked for future use.

Junctioning allows players to equip G.F. or magic that they have stored to characters to enhance their power.

Battle Assist allows players to max out their HP and ATB gauge during battle and activate Limit Breaks whenever desired. The No Encounter feature enables players to choose to turn Battle Encounters on or off. Finally, with the exception of some cutscenes, players can complete the game with 3x Speed.
