Game overview

DOT'S HOME: a single-player game about a young Black woman in Detroit, reliving crucial moments in her family’s history where race, place, and home collide.

DOT'S HOME is an engrossing 2D video game with a captivating narrative that follows a young African American woman based in Detroit. She lives in her grandmother's cherished home and travels back in time to relive significant moments in her family's history. These moments have been impacted by race, place, and home, which have forced her to make challenging choices. The game offers an immersive interactive experience that allows players to view the harmful systems which dictate our relationship with race and place. DOT'S HOME does this by presenting scenarios, where players must make decisions on how and where to live, amid the challenges of redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification. The game tackles a burning question on how families ended up where they are today and how much control they had over their journey. DOT'S HOME is a product of the Rise-Home Stories project, which is a creative alliance between talented multimedia storytellers and land justice activists. For three years, a team of professionals has come together to portray the past, present, and the future of our communities. The project aimed to transform and challenge the stories we tell about our communities. Engaging in this project through DOT'S HOME provides players with a unique perspective on their relationship with the community.
