The Dot Game is designed for people with cognitive and/or physical challenges (Alzheimer's, Dementia, Autism...).
It was build when a friends mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer and was suffering cognitive and physical challenges. The family purchased a tablet to help provide stimulation, but they were unable to find a game that was simple enough for her to play. As a result we developed The Dot Game. It's free to use and has no advertisements.
This game was made to entertain the hospitalized elderly mother of one of our development team. We've shown it to many caregivers and it's had a good response. It's simple ...that's the whole idea. We make no medical or therapeutic claims, the game is for Entertainment Only.
The Dot Game was developed for people that have lost most of their ability to control their body. Sometimes being able to make something/anything happen on a touch screen can brighten a persons day. This game is for people that are struggling to make or keep their eye-hand coordination functional enough to maybe push the button that summons a nurse. Sometimes, being able to tap a screen requires too much coordination and it doesn't happen.
There's no frantic music, no big flashy movement, no sudden distractions...it's all very predictable. Simple is good. For many people, the Dot Game can be a welcome challenge.... something to do for a few minutes while visiting and chatting.
There are no instructions included in the game, because, it's really straight forward. You tap the ball on the screen to make the ball go away. The menu lets you vary the size of the balls, the speed they re-spawn and how fast they move across the screen. There is no end goal. There is a ball count if you need something to check your progress, but the count isn't saved. Generally, the participants can only handle a few minutes of activity before it's too much effort and they shut down.
You can let the number of balls increase if you want to. The spawning balls will fill up the box and can overflow. The full box does make it easier to tap and make the balls disappear.
The game was designed to provide a sense of achievement.
