Each player needs to move a boat through a grid, removing plastics tokens from the ocean by landing on them. This is done through the use of tangible tokens which allows for the commands Move Forward, Move Backward, Turn Left and Turn Right. Once the set of tokens are packed out, a photo is taken. Through image recognition, the commands then become executable in the app, moving the boat through the grid. When the boat lands on a plastic token, it is removed from the grid, and the player can earn points by answering a multiple choice question related to plastics in the ocean. These questions serve the purpose of educating players.



BOATS can also be played as a one player game where the player plays against a “virtual opponent” which makes decisions based on artificial intelligence algorithms.
