In recreational mathematics, a square array of numbers, usually positive integers, is called a magic square if the sums of the numbers in each row, each column are the same.
Magic squares have a long history, dating back to at least 190 BCE. At various times they have acquired occult or mythical significance, and have appeared as symbols in works of art.
