Marius and his quest in the saga of sowing is the second of two developed 2D platform games that introduces 7th and 8th grade students to various concepts of physical and human geography.
The game begins when Marius, a drop of water, is surprised by a group of young seeds in his cloud house. Marius decides to bring the seedlings to their respective homes on Earth when he learns that the seedlings have accidentally followed them to his cloud during his travels.
Students are directed to six different geographic locations re-imagined as a 2D playground. Map and graphic literacy of questions, facts and collection of items create moments of explicit learning; The game component allows players to move Marius, jump, and use water and state shift powers to alter the terrain and / or move forward in their quest. The goal is for students to gain experience with geographic features and relationships to real world places.
