Play Basra with a friend on Facebook. Collect cards by matching or summing them, avoiding the J and diamond 7, to win points and Basra bonuses.
Basra" or "Ash Al Walad" or "Alkoomy" is a popular game in Egypt that has been given a fresh new redesign, complete with multiplayer capabilities (for two players) and Facebook support. With leaderboard support, logging into Facebook is necessary to keep track of scores and compete with other players.
Players take turns dealing four cards each and placing four cards on the table at the beginning of the game. Each player throws a card on the table until they run out of cards. The dealer then deals another set of cards to each player, but no new cards are added to the table. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins, with each pile counting as a point. The winner gains 30 points while the other player receives none.
To claim a card from the table, players must have a matching card in their hand or a combination of cards that equal the number of a card in their hand (excluding J, Q, and K). For example, if there are cards A, 7, K, and 8 on the table and a player has an 8 in their hand, they can take the 8 along with the 1 and 7. If a player has a J or a Diamond 7 in their hand, they can take all the cards on the table.
In addition, if a player has a card that matches the last card remaining on the table, they can take the card for an extra bonus, known as "Basra." This applies if the sum of the cards on the table matches one card in the player's hand, along with any similar cards with the same sum value. If a player with a Diamond 7 is in this situation, they can also claim "Basra."
One should be wary of holding onto a J or Diamond 7 as the last card in their hand. The other player can take the whole table and burn the card, making it impossible to claim for "Basra."
Once the dealer runs out of cards, the game ends, and the player with the most cards gets 30 points, with both players receiving 10 points each for each Basra and 30 points for a Jack Basra or Koomi Basra. The two players switch roles in each successive round until a target score is reached and a winner is announced.
