Call Break is a strategic trick-based card game played with four players, called "hands", "calls", and "trumps," each hoping to win based on the number of tricks played.
Call Break is a tactical card game that uses a standard 52-card deck and is played by four players. It bears a striking similarity to other trick-based games, such as Spades. In Call Break, instead of 'tricks,' players use the term 'hand,' while 'call' replaces 'bid.' After every deal, the player needs to produce a 'call' or 'bid' for the number of hands they believe they can win, the goal being to win at least the number of hands predicted in a round and prevent other players from fulfilling their calls. Following each round, points are tallied up, and players' scores added up after five rounds to determine the overall winner.
DEAL & BID
There are five rounds played in a game. The first dealer is chosen at random, and from there, the rotation for dealing moves anticlockwise. The dealer will deal the entire deck of 52 cards to the four players, with each player receiving 13 cards. After each deal, once the player to the left of the dealer finishes, they can place a bid on the number of hands they think they can capture, and the call moves in an anticlockwise direction to the next player until all four players have finished calling.
GAME PLAY
When each player has completed their call, the next player next to the dealer starts the game by playing any card, and the suit played by that player becomes the "led suit," meaning that every player after that will need to use the same suit, and if they don't have it, they must play a Trump card (a Spade of any rank). If a player does not have a Trump card, they can throw the card of their choosing. In this game, the highest-ranking card of the led suit will capture the hand, but if the led suit was broken by a Spade, the Spade with the highest ranking will capture instead. The winner of each hand will lead the next hand.
POINTS
After each round, points are given to every player. A player earns one point for every call made that he or she has fulfilled, and for extra captures, a single-digit decimal point will be added to the total points. For instance, a player who made a call of 4 and captured 5 hands will receive 4.1 points, or if the call was for 3, the player would earn 3.2 points. If a player does not capture the call they made, the total number of calls will be deducted from the sum of their total points.
RESULT
At the end of the fifth round, the winner is the player who has earned the most points from all rounds. If a player makes a bid of eight or more hands and captures equal or more hands than their call, he or she attains victory in a game at any point.
