The premium game is 100% story-free, instead replacing real-time strategy with turn-based tactics for added depth.

Players must create their own kingdom, turn by turn, in the 13-mission adventure mode or the free game option, facing off against AI opponents on randomly generated maps. Fans of the franchise will recognize playable races including the dark elves, orcs, and humans, and must choose to ally or fight against six neutral factions while building their empire.

As the hero of your chosen race, explore the realms in search of glory, treasure, and valuable resources to expand your empire and lead your army to victory. Conquer cities, mines and farms, and take on enemies such as spiders, shadow nightmares, and barbarian berserkers in the simultaneously turn-based battles, fought on hexagons.

Titles like SpellForce: Heroes & Magic also offer role-playing game elements, with heroes and soldiers leveling up and finding magical items such as swords and armor which can be put to use on the battlefield. In addition to classic RPG mechanics, seasoned troops are also an important piece of your battle strategy.
