Free VR open-world space simulator featuring solar system's planets with accurate sizes & distances from a student in Atlanta.
Space Sim VR is a remarkable creation of Aaron Knobloch, a software engineering scholar residing in Atlanta, Georgia. The game was developed with the sole intention of providing a breathtaking, open-world adventure throughout the solar system, while replicating space and its celestial bodies as accurately as possible. The game requires a virtual reality device, such as Google Cardboard or ViewMaster VR, for immersive gameplay. It is important to note that the menu system can only be accessed through VR devices with screen-touch capabilities. Aaron Knobloch is working to add other input devices, such as controllers, soon, and asks for the players' patience.
Space Sim VR operates in real-time speed and employs planet maps gathered from NASA data. Rotation, orbit, size, and distance are presented accurately to the third significant figure, providing players with an authentic experience of our solar system. The game features a rich selection of planets and celestial bodies, including Mercury, Venus (with a dynamic atmosphere), Earth (with a dynamic atmosphere), Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Io, Europa, Saturn (with asteroid rings), Uranus, and Neptune. Aaron Knobloch invites feedback from players and encourages the request for additional moons, ring structures, or celestial bodies to make the game more engaging. The next update will feature the asteroid belt. However, Pluto is not included in the game because it is no longer considered a planet and would produce unpredictable errors based on the simulation's scale.
The game's application icon was created by Svengraph. Aaron Knobloch also welcomes feedback and new feature requests. Given the status of a full-time student and sole game developer, updates and new features may be delivered gradually.
