ReKtaNG is a strategy game easy to get but intellectually challenging, where two players fight to conquer the board by crunching and slashing colorful rectangles.
ReKtaNG is played like a board game, both players sitting around the same touch screen, or remotely, through the Internet. In solo mode, one can also compete against an artificial intelligence which was trained using the AlphaZero technology. This AI offers 18 progressive difficulty levels.
There are 6 short rules to know when playing ReKtaNG, illustrated by the included video tutorial:
1. The Goal
Two colors are racing in turns, to conquer the playground.
The first to possess more than three quarters of the board wins the game.
2. Crunching: The Attack
Players swipe from one of their pieces to "Crunch" an opponent neighboring piece and gain ground.
The crunching piece mustn’t stick out of the crunched piece along their common side, in order for the crunch to be possible.
3. Slashing: The Defense
To protect it from crunches, a piece can be "Slashed" in two, horizontally or vertically, with a swipe.
A smaller piece is less exposed to crunches, as per the rule on the size of an crunching piece.
4. Jiggly Pieces and Fighting Back
After crunching, a piece is in a "Jiggly" state, as well as the remains of the crunched piece, if any.
Jiggly pieces can't crunch back other jiggly pieces.
5. The Grid
Pieces are made of "Grid Squares", which are clearly defined when the Grid is activated. A grid square can't be slashed.
For this reason, some pieces are too thin to be slashed. In this case, their borders look different.
6. The Bang: Hold the Center!
Every 16 moves, the board "Bangs": squares from the border of the grid are stripped; other squares are zoomed for the rest of the game.
After the 7th and last bang, only 4 grid squares will remain. So, the central part of the board is strategically key!
That's it. You're ready to crunch n' slash!
