You are cursed with the inability to leave the castle regardless of how hard you may try. Although the game never ends, you can technically win by achieving your objectives. The castle is filled with dangerous artefacts and curses that can impede your progress. The Opal curse causes blindness and makes it impossible to see the map and new areas. In contrast, the Pearl curse triggers forgetfulness, which can make finding your way around the castle extremely difficult. The Ruby curse slows you down and allows monsters to attack you first, while the Diamond curse leads to the loss of one strength point every twenty turns. Meanwhile, the Emerald curse brings bad luck and reduces your minimum attack power to a single point instead of the usual fifty percent of your strength value. The Blue Fire curse causes the cursed book to stick to your hands, making it impossible to fight. The Sign curse affects everything except the Bookstuck curse. Fortunately, you have access to powerful spells to help you navigate and fight your way through the castle. The Web spell prevents monsters from attacking for up to three turns and costs one intelligence point to cast. Fireball is a straightforward and powerful offensive spell that costs two intelligence points. Perhaps most importantly, the IQ spell instantly destroys an opponent with lower intelligence than yourself. However, casting this spell against a more intelligent enemy results in your immediate defeat at no cost.
